Abstract
This work sought to comparatively analyze whether a coolant for internal combustion engines could accelerate corrosive processes in components of the cooling system. The test was based on one of the corrosion tests present in the ABNT NBR 13705:2016 standard, which deals with the classification and necessary requirements for additives sold in Brazil. The method basically consists of making and preparing test specimens, developing a test bench capable of controlling the water temperature and ensuring the continuous flow of the cooling solution through the test pieces, subsequent cleaning of the samples and creation of a table to analyze if and at what intensity the mass loss occurs. Three different types of fluids were used, one being considered original, the other replacement (which was the target product of the analysis) and the third tap water. Of the 06 test specimens tested, only one did not show expected behavior, the others, in the three types of fluids, showed relatively similar mass loss, which made the hypothesis that the replacement additive accelerated the corrosion process to be discarded at first.
