Abstract
Studies propose carrying out sustainability analyzes of educational institutions using indicators, and academic rankings are adopted that reflect the parameters related to sustainability policies at universities, not only in Brazil but throughout the world. Moreover, some types of educational institutions also carry characteristics that make them extremely linked to the environmental issue, as is the case of federal educational institutions, above all, agro-schools. Some indicators are used to measure and manage sustainability in educational institutions, including federal ones, and it is around this premise that this study is carried out, which takes the IFMG Campus Bambuí-MG as its object. The objective of the research is to evaluate global sustainability indicators for educational institutions and propose local sustainability indicators applied to the IFMG Campus Bambuí. To this end, it seeks to understand the concept of environmental management and sustainable development; get to know the role of educational institutions, especially agro-schools, in sustainability; study existing models of sustainability indicators and verify their relevance for evaluation in federal educational institutions; select or compose a set of sustainability indicators applicable to the IFMG Campus Bambuí and replicable in other similar institutions; and detail the selected indicators and propose actions aimed at their continuous improvement. This is a qualitative type of research, characterized as applied, bibliographic and field, and the final result is represented by the composition of the list of proposed indicators, their detailing and the development of two technical products, characterized by a set of spreadsheets that it allows monitoring, in real time, the indicators in the institution, and a model of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), with three completed examples, for the development of processes that contribute to the improvement of the indicators. The concept of sustainability, which goes beyond the ecological field and also reaches the economic and social pillars, makes these three aspects equally important when it comes to promoting a sustainable institution. In the meantime, educational institutions occupy a prominent place, since they carry the function of forming citizens. For them, it is essential to establish these indicators, in order to obtain a faithful profile of the relationship they have with sustainability precepts.
