Abstract
This research aims to understand whether the data relating to academic performance in Basic Education in the State of Rio de Janeiro consider ethnic-racial belonging or whether self-declaration is present or not in the information published on the websites and platforms of the municipal education departments. In this sense, the research confirms that the municipal education departments do not have racial data in their public information channels, as occurs in the State Education Department of Rio de Janeiro. The research had a qualitative-quantitative nature and the methodology used included a bibliographical survey and the search for public data on school performance based on ethnic-racial belonging in the municipal education departments in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The study indicates that the non-linking of these data may constitute an obstacle to the formulation of public educational policies with regard to improving the school performance of the black population. Therefore, the results indicate that the non-linking of data leads to the idea that education problems are caused only by issues of socioeconomic inequality, disregarding the racial issue in its understanding. Furthermore, it appears that the unavailability of data published by institutions reveals the maintenance of structural and institutional racism in their organization. At the same time that data is unavailable, subjects are hidden to the detriment of a portion of the population that benefits from whiteness and its privileges. Thus, black and brown students who constitute the majority in Basic Education in the State of Rio de Janeiro are made invisible.
